A house with a past which harboured an important German-speaking Broadway style stage in the 50's, is now an elegant city hotel. The unostentatious six-story building that housed both a hotel and a theatre was erected at the beginning of the 1950s on a narrow plot of land. Years later, the cinema Alba moved in and to this day functions as a successful arthouse cinema. The hotel guests can relive the hotel's theatrical past both as spectators and participants since the plays that were performed over 40 years ago are omnipresent as an art form, thanks to modern technology. It is not only the in-house cinema that caters to guests' desire for relaxation and cultural entertainment. Literary entertainment is provided through audio books/audio dramas that, depending on one's mood, narrate dramatic, suspense-packed or humorous stories.

"La Suite" - the insider tipp at the Central - the ideal place to meet for an aperitif or dinner. The curtain rises at 5pm and closes at midnight. Our la suite Lounge on the 1st floor, with a magic view over the Polybahn and the busy city, combines modern ambiance with the old tradition of the theatre. Rummage in the brochure of some staged plays and admire the modern images of the old scene. A wonderful place to start an evening or to chat at the end about the last hours.

Beds that mean the world to you and the comfort that the world desires. From the card lock system to the smoke detectors in all rooms. From the noise abating windows to the cooling system. The fifty rooms of the Hotel du Theatre are each furnished with individual designer pieces and present a harmonious and light-hearted blend of honest design with playful elements. The trapezium-shaped building means that every room has a different shape. Pia Schmid, the architect, emphasized the special character of each room with its individual furnishing and developed 15 different color schemes for the different floors and rooms. Transparent artworks with the hotel's past thespian themes in the form of movie still-shots and individually designed carpets with good luck slogans and quotations also underline the playful tone. A few dozen audio-books await you: plays, tales, comedy, lyrics, drama, crime, erotics and philosophy. Shut your door, lie down, and listen once again to a good-night story.

The Hotel du Theatre is situated in the heart of Zurich and at the gates of the Old Town, just next to the tram and bus stop "Central." International Airport Zurich-Kloten (ZRH), at 10 km from the hotel. Direct connection with tram no. 10 until "Central" (next to Hotel du Theatre).
