Independent Report
locationThe hotel is located directly in the heart of York, within the old city walls of Skeldergate. Less than a minute from the riverside and centrally located, the hotel is positioned in a quiet road surrounded in its own gardens.
roomsAll rooms are medium in size and are decorated in a variety of styles. The rooms are all in fair condition as are the bathrooms. The rooms all have the amenities that one would expect, tea/coffee making facilities, etc. The rooms are scattered around the hotels grounds in a number of buildings, thus varying in style.
generalA decent hotel set in very pretty surroundings with a location to match. The hotel also boasts a leisure centre and does not accept any single sex parties. (GW 05/2009)
lobbyA large welcoming lobby awaits you; again the lobby is under a large conservatory roof giving a bright, spacious feel.
exteriorThe hotel is nestled in a courtyard garden setting. The hotel dates back to 1659, and the facade reflects this, although constant maintenance work is in place to keep the building in tact. Car parking is available at the rear of the hotel.
restaurantThe hotel has two restaurants, one is called Sawmill and the other is a large conservatory giving the room a big bright airy feeling. There is a variety of fine home cooking on offer. The restaurant overlooks the beautiful gardens in which the hotel is set.
