This hotel was built in 1897 for a well known York mill owner. The hotel is situated just a ten minute walk from the centre of York and is perfectly situated for both the city and the surrounding countryside.
general
A well located hotel, ideal for both groups and individual. Please note that the hotel is completely non-smoking, including all rooms and public areas. (GW 07/08)
lobby
The lobby is small but very elegant, and features many fine examples of art nouveau decor. There is a magnificent oak staircase and Gallery with original stained glass windows, fine oak panelling, frescoes and murals.
exterior
The hotel is a country manor house and is covered in Ivy, adding character to the building.
restaurant
The restaurant offers a different menu each evening, offering a selection of either English or continental cuisine. There is also a bar which offers snacks throughout the day, and is decorated in an art nouveau style.
rooms
The rooms all vary in size and have all been recently refurbished to a good standard with traditional decor. The rooms have all the usual facilities that one would expect from a three star hotel. Rooms are available in both the main hotel building and also within a separate annex building across the road.
