Independent Report
locationIn the heart of the Marlborough Sounds at the top end of the South Island of New Zealand. The property overlooks Kenepuru Sound.
roomsThe Premier rooms are medium to large. All these rooms have fantastic scenic views over the bay and a small seating area on the balcony. The interiors have attractive varnished wooden boards on the walls and carpeted floors. All rooms have a small fridge, Television and seating. The bathrooms are small and equipped to a reasonable standard with shower unit.
restaurantThere are two dining outlets at the resort. The casual Snapper cafe which serves light bar meals and has a lively atmosphere. The Weka restaurant is more formal dining and has a great reputation. The hotel takes pride in the quality of this restaurant.
exteriorThe resort is spread over quite a large area. The different wings of the hotel are located into the bush clad hillside and the resort faces the water. Pathways lead down to the waters edge and the boat jetty. There is a swimming pool overlooking the sea and pleasant gardens linking all the different buildings.
lobbyA small lobby and check in area. The lounge and Restaurant lead off from the lobby area.
generalThe Portage Resort is a great hotel tucked into some of the most fantastic scenery that is on offer in New Zealand. The emphasis is on water activities and the walking tracks, though a few days simply enjoying the resort would be a great way to unwind. Access is possible by road, though it is 1 hour 20 minutes winding drive. Alternatively take a scenic water taxi from Picton that takes only 20 minutes (book at Picton harbour). A great example of What a New Zealand holiday should be. SE1008
