generalWhere Tradition and Modernism merge as one ? ?Grand Sahid Jaya Hotel has undergone several improvements in recent months, the most outstanding being the renovation of the building and facilities. The off-white metallic facade immediately gives a dramatic modern feeling and compliments the new canopy area leading to the elegant lobby foyer. This modern use of materials with perforated metal to display the ?Sidomulyo? Batik pattern adds a new dimension to traditional Indonesian design. Other elements of Indonesian culture are featured throughout the hotel including a relief at the front of the building depicting the ?Palapa Pledge? which tells the story of Mahapatih Gajah Mada, a famous Indonesian hero who successfully united the country. Other elements of Javanese heritage abound, including Gebyok Kudus in the lobby, Sidomulyo Batik design elements and cowhide puppets portraying the legend of Pandowo Limo are displayed using digital printing, tempered ice-glass or etching.
