Independent Report
locationOur hotel in Fairhope, just 10 minutes from the I-10 Daphne exit, is located in the heart of the historic downtown shopping and entertainment district, home to countless antiques stores, galleries and restaurants and just blocks from the majestic waterfront along Mobile Bay.
generalFairhope Alabama is one of two single tax colonies remaining in the United States /the other is in Arden Delaware/. The community was established in 1894 by a group from Des Moines Iowa headed by Ernest B. Gaston who wanted to establish a colony based on the single tax theories of economist journalist and social reformer Henry George. The people who founded Fairhope weren't able to create a true single tax community as defined by Henry George but they attempted to come as close as they could. They acquired land in the name of the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation then leased the land to those who wanted to use or live on the land. Lessees have a 99 year renewable lease on the land but have ownership of improvements on the land. In 1908 the City of Fairhope was officially established. Today the city thrives on the beautiful banks of Mobile Bay with dozens of quaint shops restaurants local art galleries and antique markets. When you stay at the Hampton Inn Fairhope you're in the heart of it all. Start your day with our On the House hot breakfast before venturing out to the flower-lined streets to shop hike bird watch or simply enjoy the beautiful views of Mobile Bay. In the evenings relax in our comfy lobby with complimentary coffee or tea 24 hours a day in front of the fireplace. For a special treat choose one of our balcony rooms and watch an old fashioned 'main street' parade during Mardi Gras or Christmas.
