generalOnce a former prison housing inmates working on the then new V&A Waterfront, Breakwater Lodge is now a hotel and university college. There is 24 hour secure parking, laundry facilities, babysitting service, a business centre and good conference facilities. (AHJ0509)
lobbyA small lobby with a reception desk to your right as you enter and a small seating area for guests. The reception is open 24 hours a day and has a safety deposit box.
exteriorDespite once being a prison this is a very attractive building and resembles a castle more than a prison. Painted white, two storeys tall and with a large central courtyard this is a pleasant looking hotel.
restaurantThere are two restaurants. A self service restaurant offering breakfast, lunch and dinner and snacks all day and a more formal restaurant which is long and narrow and has spectacular views of Table Mountain as well as the Waterfront. A la carte food can be ordered here and there is a good wine menu.
roomsThe 192 rooms are all attractively furnished and are equipped with 22 inch LCD Television sets with an 11 channel DSTV package, radio, a direct-dial telephone and hair dryer. For a little refreshment, a welcome tray with biscuits and the facility to make tea and coffee is supplied. All Standard rooms are with Shower only.
locationThe Protea Hotel Breakwater Lodge Is housed in a former 19th century prison and is positioned on the V&A Waterfront with views of the harbour and Table Mountain. It is also close to the city centre and the best city beaches.
